ARBITRENDS Report: Phase 1, Summer 2006...

The numbers at left represent AQH shares for Persons 12+, Monday-Sunday, 6AM-12M, for the St. Louis metro rating area.

Phase 1 of the Summer 2006 survey period include the last two four-week "phases" of the Spring 2006 book and the first four weeks of the Summer book (known as May-June-July), which began on June 29th and will conclude on September 20th.

The numbers are crunched to provide a "rolling average" that provides subscribers a once-a-month check of their work.

If, for example, a station experiences a significant rise or decline, the station can expect that the next trend report will be correspondingly up or down and can make adjustments. Using proprietary Arbitron information and formulae, they can even extrapolate an approximate future rating.

Phase II will publish on September 20th and the complete Summer Book will roll out on October 18th.

NOTE: 12+ numbers provide only an overview of the marketplace. All rating figures are history.

Corporate 12+ Scorecard: Clear Channel - 22.3; CBS - 16.6; Bonneville - 15.3; Emmis - 14.4; Radio One - 6.5.

Mike's analysis:

KMOX up 12+, KTRS flat. See below for the bigger story.

From the Unknown AnalystTM:

They've got to be asking some serious questions around Westport today following the release of the May-June-July trend. KTRS drops 12th to 15th 25-54 adults, but that's not the story. Baseball at night accounts for a nearly 3-point increase. That's on top of their jump from 18th to first in the spring book. However, mornings does not show up in the top twenty stations. The dynamic duo of Milhaven and Kramer drop over a point from 15th to 18th, and Frank loses close to half his audience dropping 10th to 17th. As for their claim they're targeting a younger audience, you might want to re-think that, too. Overall they drop 14th to 17th 18-34 persons while Kramer, for example, drops 15th to 20th. What's going to happen to KTRS when baseball ends, presumably, early this year?

Otherwise, very good trend for KSHE and KIHT 25-54 persons. Bob & Tom knock off The Arch for first in adults. JC and U-Man third. KMOX falls out of the top ten dropping 8th to 11th. Cornette up nicely, 12th to 8th while Cornbread falls a bit, 3rd to 6th. Steve & DC drop again. Smash & Allman flat.

Middays 25-54 persons: The Arch, KSHE, KEZK, KIHT and KLOU are your top five.

Afternoons 25-54 persons: The Arch, KSHE, KEZK, WIL and KIHT. Glover flat at 7th. Paul Harris flat at 15th.

Nights: KTRS, KMJM, WFUN, KSHE and KEZK.
