A memo from Mark...

Mark Edwards, KEZK/STL PDOn Wednesday, June 14th, 2006, KEZK PD Mark Edwards (pictured at left) gifted the entire CBSRadio/STL staff (and a few lucky players at Bonneville/STL) with the memo that follows here. The listener "note" to which Mark refers is at the bottom of this page; the writer's name has been redacted by me.

As you read it, note the elitist attitude, the cheap personal shots and the arrogant dismissal of the note from the listener, which apparently was not up to Mark's intellectual standards. Geez...it sounds like something I'd have written!

Here's the memo:

As you know, Corndog at WIL is very bent out of shape about the bad day he had at the Race For The Cure. He's now mobilized his listeners to write to me. Please enjoy the note below from an actual Cornpone listener. How do I know they're a Corndog listener? Well, the language is unmistakably that of a WIL P1, and the listener posted her note to me on the Corndog chat board as well as sending it.

Between the WIL listeners and Bonneville employees making this a huge issue on the formerly important 92.3 and internet chat boards, I believe we've accomplished all of our phase one post race goals. The people in the ill fitting green shirts helped us raise $2.3 million and WE get the credit from everyone in the community that matters. Then we didn't have to do a thing but let them spend the massive amount of free time they have to work themselves into a tizzy over a small radio prank that obviously struck its target like a cruise missile in Iraq. Of course, Cornpone IS a very large target.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi lived for 52 minutes after he was attacked. We'll see how much longer Corndog and his cronies can survive before they either whip themselves into a psychotic coma or realize that if they want to mess with our stations they'll lose in the long run and continue to embarrass themselves to the people who matter. Our stations will always take the high road against bottom feeders like these people, and we will continue to do so. It's the right thing to do, and its pretty humorous to see how easy it is to freak these people out.

Letter from the WIL listener:

I think it is a sad day in radio when one station acts the way you have. WIL did nothing wrong and you calling up their program director and acting like a baby because another station joined in on something you sponsored! You have lost a listen and I am sure I will not be the only one. I think you should look pass yourself and realize that there was a lot of money was raised to help cure a horrible cancer! If your listens could be so kind as the WIL listens and raise that much money then maybe you wouldn't act like a child who got their lolipop stepped on. Grow up!
